Representative Malinowski Applauds DOT Commitment to Complete Key Milestone for Gateway Project by May 28th
(Somerville, NJ) In response to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s commitment to complete the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and issue a Record of Decision for the Hudson Tunnel Project by May 28, Rep. Tom Malinowski issued the following statement:
“The Biden Administration’s announcement that the Environmental Impact Statement for the Hudson Tunnel Project will be completed by the end of next month marks a significant milestone for Gateway – the most important infrastructure project in the country. After years of stalling by the Trump Administration, Gateway is on track,” said Rep. Tom Malinowski. “I commend Secretary Buttigieg, leadership at the Federal Transit Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration, and the project sponsors for their efforts, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them to get the tunnel done.”
At a recent House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing, Rep. Malinowski questioned Secretary Buttigieg on the timeline for completing the EIS and underscored the need for quick action from the Administration. Since coming to Congress, Rep. Malinowski has worked to secure the necessary funding and approvals for all elements of the Gateway Program, including the replacement of the Portal North Bridge, for which more $800 million was formally secured earlier this year.
