“My office has received a lot of questions about how the recent IRS changes will work in practice, and how to take advantage of its new programs,” said Representative Malinowski. “I am grateful to our IRS district liaison who continues to be available for my constituents as a resource to answer their questions.”
This March, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion relief package to address the unprecedented COVID-19 public health and economic crisis. The bill provides assistance to households across America by supplying a direct payment of $1,400 for individuals making up $75,000, head of household filers with incomes up to $112,500, and joint filers with incomes up to $150,000. The bill also increases the amount of the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under age 6, and $3,000 for other children under age 18. It is estimated that these changes will lift nearly 10 million children across the U.S. above or closer to the poverty line. This includes an estimated 89,000 children in New Jersey.
